Yoly Ledezma is a well known potter in Mata Ortiz, and a consistent fan favorite. She is popular for the quality and affordability of her pots, always crafted with attention to detail and quality. Yoly hand forms her pots without the use of a potter's wheel, from clay that has been dug from the surrounding countryside and strained to remove the impurities. As such, the clay is the purest and easiest to work with, so say the artists from Mata Ortiz. The painting on this piece was done with paint made from natural pigments and minerals by the artists, and applied with handcrafted brushes made of long strands of human hair! The pot is also polished with an agate stone to achieve a beautiful shine. This particular piece is crafted of a gorgeous earthy brown clay, and then perfectly accented with natural black and white paint in an eye dazzling pattern that is quite difficult to achieve. Yoli uses her traditional cuadritos (or squares) pattern that is her signature style, and a pattern that is quite difficult to execute. We love the shape of this piece, with the squared lip adding the perfect touch. The pot is signed by the artist, and a pottery ring is always provided for free with your purchase.
