About the artist:
B.L. Schayot was born in Houma, LA in 1976, and raised in Metairie, LA.  He is self-taught and works predominantly in the medium of graphic art, with a focus on the Fleur De Lis, a strong New Orleans motif and favorite of the Deep South!
His works are notable for their perfect finish and tactile nature. This is of great importance and bears witness to great craftsmanship. By focusing on techniques and theme, he considers making art a craft which is executed using clear formal rules and which should always refer to social reality.
His works urge us to renegotiate graphic art as being part of a reactive or – at times – conscious  medium, commenting on traditional themes in our contemporary society.  His art explores the shared narratives and connectedness of the real and the abstract by creating a conversation between color, texture, and theme.
Since much of his work is personalized, he has been commissioned to do other shapes and themes as well.  You will find his artwork featured on WeAreDat, in various Art Shops, Craft Shows, Expos & Restaurants.
B.L. Schayot currently lives in Kenner, La., where he is the proud father of 2 children.  In addition, he is a manager of the New Orleans Saints Drumline, FCDC, and a guitar/bass instructor for Beanstalk Kids ROCK.
